3 posts in one

Hi everyone, I don't know if there is anyone reading these, or no one, but nonetheless, I like writing. So what I have today is a three-for-one, notes I've written on facebook that I figure can't hurt to repost here. They should give you some Idea of who I am, and the sort of things I like to do. Here we go starting with the first:

10 Fun things that are on my mind. And so can you.

September 11, 2008

10. It was raining today, alot. So I discovered that walking barefoot across campus is a great way to forget that rain is annoying. In fact, I ended up aiming for puddles instead of avoiding them. So from now on, if it rains, and I am far enough away from my room, shoes are coming off.

9. Spore is super fun, for 5 minutes.

8. I can't wait to go home this weekend, and its Thursday already, so I'm very close. I love weekend here, but I can't wait to relax at home.

7. OpenOffice.org is one of the best free things I've ever used. It isn't like gimp vs photoshop, where the latter is such a clear winner that it isn't funny. On the contrary, so far I feel like I'm using MS Office exactly, except that it is free.

6. Cindy McCain has had drift lessons in Japan. Obviously, money allows that (she drifts corvettes!), but still. I have a new respect for her. Still not voting for McCain though.

5. Classes are great. EXCEPT geology. Its going to be a rough ride. Other than that though, they are great. Good subjects, good teachers, good classmates.

4. New Zune firmware update coming September 16. Wireless Marketplace, official game support, radio tagging, buy from FM, its great.

3. Muse puts on an amazing show. You and I must fight for our lives.

2. I like new facebook. They made some changes today that I don't care for all that much, but still, I like it better than old facebook. For some reason people really dislike new facebook, and it honestly seems like they just don't want to learn the new places things are.

1. I get to bring something incredibly cool back to ASU after this weekend. Yes, you guessed correctly, I am bringing my Ninja Legos back.

Bob Ross pulls paintings from his head like I just pulled ideas.

Things that lack importance. On a massive scale.

Now that I feel like an accomplised list-maker, I've decided to take my relationship with the notes application to the next level. Connected bullet points. Each topic has to connect to the one before it.

10. The new zune update is fantastic. Although a updates the caplot of the stuff added requires the transfer of money, it seriously updates the capabilities of the player. Now, without a doubt, it is second only to the ipod touch in terms of abilities.

9. Now that my firmware and software are updated, I need some new content. There is a way to remove DRM from Ruckus songs. This is kept purposefully vauge. But needless to say, this will augment my music collection. Greatly.

8. And ironically, just as the last time I wrote a note, Muse HAARP is on the tv. Fantastic.

7. And before that, Ninja Gaiden was on, because I was playing. It seems easier now than the first time a slogged (yes, slogged) through it.

6. My new shoes are, simply put, ninja shoes. Vibram Fivefingers. There is no lukewarm feeling for these shoes, you either love them or hate them, but I love my FF Sprints.

5. These shoes are great for walking, which is what I'll be doing Sunday when I go to Charlotte to see Obama speak. (yes, that was a price is right level segway, in other words AWFUL)

4. The game "the political machine" is surprisingly fun, like political risk.

3. I'm getting pretty exited that the election is drawing close. like 6 weeks!

2. I'm also exited that Fall break is less than a month away, and that my family is coming up for open house next weekend.

1. This is the last spot, where I'm just going to place random, disconnected statements about the general status of my brain.-I'm optimistic about the economy. Int. Politics helps.-I'm feeling unuasually crafty right now. Built a storage box last night from cardboard and staples. -Assassin should get started soon. I promise.-I've got tests next week. But I feel good about them. Got study groups together too.-Lovill is amazing.-Whoever put the sheet and popcorn on our door, bravo. I don't know who you are, because intentional or not, all the prime suspects were asleep or away. Clever.-Gonna paint the tunnel tomorrow. I think.

The most epic note you will read in the next 24 hours.

On this edition of my brain, I'd like to do something other than a list, but I want the order that only a list can deliver, so in turn, I will compromise by starting new thoughts with an arbitrary and meaningless number. Now, for the feature presentation:

234. Seing Obama was amazing. His speech was nothing that I haven't read before, but it was awesome to hear him give it in person. I'd go again in a heartbeat. It was great to see so many Obama supporters, especially in NC, home of the blind republican supporters. There were some protesters, and we got to be a protest shield, which was sweet. The police tuned their electronics out, and later ordered them to take down their amplifying equipment.

5,983. I don't know what McCain is up to with this "suspend the campaign" stuff. Honestly the fact that he has done this now, makes it look like he A) doesn't want to debate Friday, and/or B) has caught on to the talk that he has been ignoring/inadequately responding/acting clueless to the mortage crisis. Obama should absolutely not suspend campaign activity, if only for the fact that he doesn't accept public money! Only private funds fuel his campaign, unlike McCain.

7. Homecoming is coming! We turned in the banner, and other stuff is closing up.

-15.8765. I had three tests this week. And beat them all. They weren't bad, and on top of that, I don't have anything for a while now.

99. Sarah Palin needs to start speaking. Really.

27.0.0.1. Does not exist! Oh, and I can't wait for the weekend. John is coming up, so is family, its going to be great.32141. I don't know if my nose if broken, but I think I'll find out tomorrow.

42. Obama is ahead! According to CNN.

3.14159. Obama, please come to Boone! 20k people easy would go see you.

594. John Stewart just owned Sarah Palin.

7.5. This has been pretty much all political. Oh, the epic part. Here:

I love new facebook

I enjoy new things, and I have enjoyed the last several weeks of using "new facebook". For some odd reason however, many thousands (100s of thousands) of Facebook users have rallied against the change. Now, I took some reasons why (all the reasons) from a group with 524K members, and here is what they have come up with:

""REASONS TO HATE THE NEW FACEBOOK:

1- The application list was more convenient on the left bc the natural orientation to read is from left to right.

2- Having one page for a profile makes it easier to show people what you want in whichever order you like. The new facebook put all the applications on one page. I guarantee that it will be rare that anyone looks there. While the wall/minifeed & your information have their own tabs. This makes it much longer to find things. It's not because we're lazy, just because it's better when faster.

3- "Having all my apps and stuff on the one page instead of using those tabs is quicker and more accessible like a poster - not like a book."

4- "It seems kind of 'big' or something? Like for children."

5- The Wall/Minifeed Combination makes things more confusing.

6- The left justification makes it look off and abnormal.

7- The fact that we can't reorganize our immediate profiles.

8- The fact that facebook is trying to be more like myspace. That ruins it's originality and uniqueness. If you want a social networking site that's like myspace, then join myspace. PERIOD. I loved facebook for it's simplicity and design.

9- Everything seems very cluttered despite the fact they tried to make it simpler. Their plan miserably failed.

10- For those with larger computer screens (I have a 20 inch screen), the site looks too empty on both the sides of the left justified content.""
_______________________________________________

I left out ones that have already been dealt with, or show a lack of user experience, and this is the list that is left.

4 and 10 seem stupid to me. I always thought that old facebook was too small, so the size is a welcome change.

8 and 9 kind of go together, in that neither make sense. In case you haven't seen myspace lately, it is still the trailer park that it has always been. Facebook on the other hand, remains clean and crisp, and now more ordered. They did succeed in simplifying the site, in that I don't have to scroll down 100 feet to reach peoples apps now.

The first bunch all deal with the issues of seperate pages, justification, and the combination of minifeed and wall. I love all of these changes, and to be honest, I don't know why people don't. They show you a better view of what people were doing, and when than the seperate boxes of the past. Also, the argument that things are harder to find, difficult to use, etc, is only present because people either learn incredibly slowly, or have done things one way for years and are now protesting even a hint of change.

The bottom line is that the FB developers have the freedom to do what they want with their site, and that I like what they have done. I guarantee you that no one will be protesting this in 2 months, unless the change is still not permanent. People will not flock to myspace, and they will simply adapt to new.facebook.com. I for one, already have, and my favorite feature? Not being greeted with an ad on the homepage.
